The Mission of Emerald Tree

Our Urban Forest is one of the greatest assets we have.

It’s also one of the most fragile. We take pride in our ability to promote and enhance the beauty, health and value of the trees in our care. We understand tree care decisions can be daunting so our service begins with a discussion and a new perspective on your trees from someone who’s spent their life studying trees in urban and forested environments.

Why we’re on the leading edge of arboriculture

Skills – We’ve done everything from fine pruning bonsai trees to utilizing cranes to remove trees from houses after storms.  Years of experience have exposed us to almost everything.

Education –  Jim was one of the first Board Certified Master Arborists in Oregon, #PN-1314B. He’s also a Certified Tree Risk Assessor and is committed to keeping our team at the forefront of arboriculture.

Participation – In life and community.  We donate time and money to organizations that study, protect, and promote trees.  1% of our profits will go to these groups in 2010.  The Hoyt Arboretum, the Nature Conservancy, the Tree Fund, and one other group voted by our clients.  Get your vote in now on the contact us page.

In  2009, we participated in Friends of Trees plantings, Arborists in the Arboretum, and the Citywide Tree Policy Group as well as giving talks on tree biology and City regulations.

As green as we can be – With our “No Net Loss” policy we help plant a tree for every tree that we remove (unless  it’s invasive, diseased, or dangerous). We donate chips as mulch to local gardens unless the tree was diseased or has prolific seeds.  These chips go to Wood Waste management to be burned for steam generated energy.  We salvage wood when possible for milling and reuse in urban structures or art.  Some wood is used for firewood to heat our homes.

We have a hunger of the mind which asks for knowledge of all around us, and the more we gain, the more is our desire, the more we see, that more we are capable of seeing.
